CoachingSearch has learned that former Detroit Lions defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson will join the Oakland Raiders’ staff as assistant defensive backs coach.

Robertson coached the Lions’ defensive backfield in 2013 after spending the previous year as a defensive assistant.

The Raiders recently parted ways with defensive backs coaches Johnnie Lynn and Clayton Lopez, so there was a need for a new secondary coaches. Robertson joins former Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Joe Woods, who is also joining the Raiders’ staff.

Robertson played 12 years in the NFL after getting drafted in the fourth round out of Iowa State in 1991. His coaching career began as director of player development for the Tennessee Titans from 2003-06. In 2007, he was moved to assistant defensive backs coach, and Robertson was promoted to defensive backs coach from 2009-11.
